Gaëtan Charlot

the youngest fencer for wheelchair fencing

Gaëtan Charlot

At the end of February 2016 “Fäktning för synskadade” and our blind-fencing club “Prêt” spent a great week of training in the beautiful town of Bouillargue, France. There we had the privilege of meeting Gaëtan Charlot from the Tassin la Demi- Lune La Riposte Club.
Gaëtan was the youngest fencer we met during our time in France. Gaëtan told us that he is 17 years old and has been fencing for at least 9 years. He said that fencing was the only sport available for people with handicap in the whole region and after seeing it live and taking a chance to try it out, he ended up falling in love with the sport and picked it up more seriously. He became so dedicated to the sport that he won the National Competition for wheelchair fencing.
To close the interview Gaëtan said: Fencing to me is tactic, mutual respect and is a great sport. I am happy when I am fencing.
